It is apparent that human beings are designed to worship. Why? Because no matter what they believe, no matter where they come from, no matter what they do, human beings find a way, whether directly or indirectly, to worship something or someone. Don’t believe me? Look up the word worship (I’m not going to do your work for you, lazy). One thing you might learn is that the English word “worship” comes from an Old English word that means “worthy”. Whom or what is worthy of your adoration, in your opinion? Better yet in your actions, your affections, your allegiance? What gets your time, money, and energy? Who or what do you deem worthy of your constant attention and affection? Shoes? The Redskins? Money? Food? Sex? Christ? Beezelbub? Self?
Don’t want to admit that you’re a worshiper? Too smart, aware, enlightened, or elite to worship a god? Religion is the opiate of the masses, eh? If science can’t prove it (translation: If you in your limited understanding cannot compute it nor can you find a reputable calculation of it by some other douchebag) then you don’t believe it? Congratulations; you simply worship your self. Nothing can exist that’s higher than what you can perceive, huh?
Worshiper.
The point is, no matter who or what you are, whether you know it or not, you’re worshiping something. Choosing to worship a spiritual god is noble, choosing to worship your self is foolish; but what are you when you worship a non-being? Most people actually worship ideas, or worse, dogmatic ideologies that have no power to save. Even worse are those who worship institutions that are upheld by the ideas; that’s like worshiping the throne the real god sits on! What sense does THAT make? Well, to many citizens, it makes a lot of sense! How so? Because the most committed worshipers worship the State (or the anti-State) and political platforms. They don’t even really worship the cause (which might have been forgivable), but the vehicle in which the cause is contained, by which it is driven. These are society’s bottom feeders who often call themselves ‘activists’, ‘purists’, ‘staunch (fill in the blank)’, or other such self-righteous distinctions. However, they are no better than someone who chooses to worship an expensive car, as opposed to the luxury brand that made the car, as opposed to the money that acquires the luxury, as opposed to the system that provides the money, as opposed to the humans that run the system, as opposed to the God who created the humans.
But I digress…
Whom or what do you worship? And does what you worship at least reward you properly? Does it serve you as you serve it? Or does it just dangle a carrot in front of you, always leading you to more and more want with less and less gratification?
Think…
